Sausage Gravy and Biscuits
A classic Southern comfort food featuring fluffy biscuits smothered in a rich, creamy sausage gravy.
Ingredients
- 1 lb Pork breakfast sausage
- ¼ cup All-purpose flour
- 3 cups Whole milk
- ½ tsp Salt
- ½ tsp Black pepper
- 8 count Canned biscuits
- 2 tbsp Butter (optional)
Steps
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake biscuits according to package directions.
- While biscuits bake, crumble sausage into a large skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, breaking up with a spoon, until browned and cooked through. Drain excess grease, leaving about 2 tablespoons in the pan.
- Sprinkle flour over the cooked sausage and stir well. Cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
- Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly to prevent lumps. Bring the gravy to a simmer, then reduce heat to low and cook for 5-7 minutes, or until thickened to your desired consistency.
- Season the gravy with salt and black pepper to taste. If desired, stir in 2 tablespoons of butter for extra richness.
- Serve the hot sausage gravy generously over the warm, freshly baked biscuits.
