Slow Cooker Pulled Pork
Tender, succulent pulled pork cooked low and slow, perfect for sandwiches, tacos, or bowls.
Ingredients
- 2½ lb pork shoulder (boston butt)
- 1 medium onion
- 3 clove garlic
- ½ cup chicken broth
- ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp cumin
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ¾ cup BBQ sauce (optional)
- 4 hamburger buns (optional)
Steps
- Trim any excess fat from the pork shoulder and cut it into 2-3 large pieces. Season generously with salt and pepper.
- Dice the onion and mince the garlic. Place the pork pieces in the slow cooker.
- In a small bowl, whisk together chicken broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, smoked paprika, chili powder, and cumin. Pour over the pork.
- Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the slow cooker.
- Cover and cook on low for 7-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours, until the pork is fork-tender.
- Carefully remove the pork from the slow cooker and shred it using two forks. Discard any large pieces of fat.
- Return the shredded pork to the slow cooker and stir it into the cooking liquid. If desired, stir in BBQ sauce.
- Serve warm on hamburger buns or as desired.
