Steamed Clams with Garlic and Butter
A classic and simple dish featuring tender clams steamed in a savory broth of white wine, garlic, and butter, perfect for a light yet satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 3 lb clams
- 6 clove garlic
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- 1 cup dry white wine
- ¼ cup fresh parsley (optional)
- 4 lemon wedges (optional)
- 1 loaf crusty bread (optional)
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Steps
- Clean the clams by scrubbing them under cold water and discarding any that are open and do not close when tapped.
- Mince the garlic and chop the fresh parsley, if using.
- In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add minced garlic and red pepper flakes (if using) and sauté for 1 minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the white wine and bring to a simmer. Add the cleaned clams to the pot, cover tightly, and steam for 5-7 minutes, or until all clams have opened. Discard any unopened clams.
- Stir in the butter until melted and well combined with the broth. Remove from heat.
- Divide the steamed clams and broth among serving bowls. Garnish with fresh parsley and serve immediately with lemon wedges and crusty bread for dipping.
