Syrian Bread
Soft and pillowy Syrian flatbread, perfect for scooping up dips or serving alongside your favorite Middle Eastern dishes.
Ingredients
- 3 cup all-purpose flour
- 1½ tsp active dry yeast
- ½ tsp sugar
- 1½ tsp salt
- 1⅛ cup water
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
Steps
- Combine water, oil, sugar, salt, flour, and yeast in a large bowl or stand mixer. Knead for 8-10 minutes until a smooth, elastic dough forms.
- Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place for 60-90 minutes, or until doubled in size.
- Gently punch down the dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Form each piece into a smooth ball.
- Cover the dough balls with a damp cloth and let them rest for 15-20 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C) with a baking sheet or pizza stone inside.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll each dough ball into a thin, 8-inch diameter circle.
- Carefully place 2 flatbreads on the hot baking sheet or stone. Bake for about 5 minutes, or until puffed and lightly golden.
- Repeat with the remaining dough circles. Serve warm.
