Tempeh and Black Bean Burgers
Hearty and flavorful vegetarian burgers made from tempeh and black beans, perfect for a satisfying meal.
Ingredients
- 8 oz tempeh
- 15 oz canned black beans
- ½ red onion
- 2 garlic cloves
- ½ bell pepper
- ½ cup oats (rolled)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- ½ tsp cumin
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 4 burger buns
- 4 lettuce leaves (optional)
- 4 tomato slices (optional)
- 4 slices pickles (optional)
- 4 tbsp vegan mayonnaise (optional)
Steps
- Crumble the tempeh into small pieces. Drain and rinse the black beans.
- Finely dice the red onion and bell pepper, and mince the garlic.
- Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Sauté the onion, bell pepper, and garlic for 5-7 minutes until softened.
- In a large bowl, combine the crumbled tempeh, black beans, sautéed vegetables, rolled oats, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and pepper. Mash with a fork or potato masher until well combined but still chunky.
- Form the mixture into 4 patties. Heat the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil in the same skillet over medium heat. Cook the patties for 5-7 minutes per side until golden brown and heated through.
- Serve the tempeh and black bean burgers on buns with your desired toppings like lettuce, tomato, pickles, and vegan mayonnaise.
