Traditional Lobster Bake
Experience the classic taste of a New England lobster bake, featuring succulent lobster, clams, corn, and potatoes, all steamed together to perfection.
Ingredients
- 4 live lobsters
- 2 lb littleneck clams
- 1½ lb small red potatoes
- 4 ears of corn
- 1 onion
- 4 clove garlic
- 2 lemon (optional)
- 4 cup chicken or vegetable broth
- 1 sheet seaweed (optional for flavor) (optional)
- ½ cup unsalted butter (optional)
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
Steps
- Scrub the potatoes clean and cut them in half or quarters if large. Husk the corn and break into halves. Clean the clams by soaking them in cold water for 20 minutes, then scrubbing.
- In a very large pot or steamer, add broth, chopped onion, and minced garlic. If using, add seaweed for authentic flavor. Bring to a boil.
- Add the potatoes to the boiling liquid, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes until slightly tender.
- Place the lobsters on top of the potatoes, then arrange the corn and clams around them. Cover tightly.
- Steam for 10-12 minutes, or until lobsters are bright red and clams have opened. Discard any unopened clams.
- Carefully remove all ingredients from the pot and arrange on a large platter. Serve immediately with melted butter and lemon wedges, if desired.
