Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 medium yellow onion
  • 1 medium green bell pepper
  • 2 clove garlic
  • ¾ cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Dijon mustard
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Steps

  1. Dice the onion and bell pepper. Mince the garlic.
  2. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
  3. Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, chili powder, and paprika, cooking for 1 minute more until fragrant.
  4. Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
  5. Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
  6. Serve the sloppy joe mixture warm on toasted hamburger buns.
