Turkey Sloppy Joes
A healthier take on a classic, these Turkey Sloppy Joes are savory, slightly sweet, and perfect for a quick family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 medium yellow onion
- 1 medium green bell pepper
- 2 clove garlic
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tsp Dijon mustard
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- 4 hamburger buns
- 1 tbsp olive oil
Steps
- Dice the onion and bell pepper. Mince the garlic.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground turkey and cook, breaking it up with a spoon, until browned, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Add diced onion and bell pepper to the skillet and cook until softened, about 5 minutes. Stir in minced garlic, chili powder, and paprika, cooking for 1 minute more until fragrant.
- Stir in ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, salt, and pepper. Bring the mixture to a simmer, then reduce heat to low, cover, and cook for 10-15 minutes, allowing flavors to meld.
- Taste and adjust seasonings as needed.
- Serve the sloppy joe mixture warm on toasted hamburger buns.
