Turkish Vermicelli Rice

Ingredients

  • 1½ cup long-grain rice
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ½ cup vermicelli pasta
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2½ cup chicken broth
  • ½ tsp salt

Steps

  1. Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear, then soak in cold water for 10 minutes.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Add vermicelli and stir continuously until golden brown (2-3 minutes). Remove from heat, stir in butter until melted, and let cool for 1-2 minutes.
  3. Drain the soaked rice thoroughly and add it to the pan with the vermicelli. Stir well to combine.
  4. Pour in the hot chicken broth, add salt, and stir. Bring to a boil over high heat.
  5. Reduce heat to the lowest setting, cover the pan, and simmer for 7-9 minutes.
  6. Remove from heat, cover the pan with paper towels or a light tea towel, and replace the lid. Let sit for 10 minutes.
  7. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
