Turkish Vermicelli Rice
A staple of Turkish cuisine, this fluffy rice dish features toasted vermicelli for a delightful texture and rich flavor, perfect as a side.
Ingredients
- 1½ cup long-grain rice
- 3 tbsp vegetable oil
- ½ cup vermicelli pasta
- 2 tbsp unsalted butter
- 2½ cup chicken broth
- ½ tsp salt
Steps
- Rinse the rice under cold running water until the water runs clear, then soak in cold water for 10 minutes.
- Heat vegetable oil in a medium pan over medium heat. Add vermicelli and stir continuously until golden brown (2-3 minutes). Remove from heat, stir in butter until melted, and let cool for 1-2 minutes.
- Drain the soaked rice thoroughly and add it to the pan with the vermicelli. Stir well to combine.
- Pour in the hot chicken broth, add salt, and stir. Bring to a boil over high heat.
- Reduce heat to the lowest setting, cover the pan, and simmer for 7-9 minutes.
- Remove from heat, cover the pan with paper towels or a light tea towel, and replace the lid. Let sit for 10 minutes.
- Fluff the rice with a fork before serving.
