Beef Souvlaki
Tender marinated beef skewers, grilled to perfection and served with fresh vegetables and warm pita bread.
Ingredients
- 1½ lb beef sirloin or top round
- ¼ cup olive oil
- 3 tbsp lemon juice
- 4 clove garlic
- 2 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried thyme
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ red onion (optional)
- 1 bell pepper (any color) (optional)
- 4 pita bread
- ¾ cup tzatziki sauce (optional)
- 1 cup cherry tomatoes (optional)
- ½ cucumber (optional)
Steps
- Cut beef into 1-inch cubes. Mince garlic.
- In a bowl, combine olive oil, lemon juice, minced garlic, oregano, thyme, salt, and pepper. Add beef cubes and toss to coat. Marinate for at least 30 minutes at room temperature, or up to 4 hours in the refrigerator.
- If using wooden skewers, soak them in water for at least 20 minutes to prevent burning. Thread the marinated beef onto skewers. Optionally, alternate with chunks of red onion and bell pepper.
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat. Lightly oil the grill grates.
- Grill the beef skewers for 3-4 minutes per side, turning occasionally, until cooked to your desired doneness (internal temperature 135-145°F for medium-rare).
- Warm the pita bread on the grill for 30 seconds per side.
- Serve the beef souvlaki immediately with warm pita bread, tzatziki sauce, sliced cherry tomatoes, and cucumber, if desired.
