Ingredients

  • 1½ lb ground beef
  • 2 yellow onion
  • 2 cup beef broth
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil

Steps

  1. Form ground beef into 4 equal patties. Season both sides with salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Sear patties for 3-4 minutes per side until browned, then remove from skillet and set aside.
  3. Add sliced onions to the same skillet, scraping up any browned bits. Cook until softened and lightly caramelized, about 8-10 minutes.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the onions and cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly, to create a roux.
  5. Gradually whisk in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce, bringing the gravy to a simmer. Cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 5-7 minutes.
  6. Return the hamburger steaks to the skillet, nestling them into the gravy. Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until cooked through.
