Saudi Arabian Shakshouka
A flavorful Saudi Arabian shakshouka featuring eggs poached in a rich, garlicky tomato sauce, perfect for a comforting meal.
Ingredients
- ½ lb tomato
- 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
- 4 egg
- 4 clove garlic
- ½ tsp black pepper (optional)
- ½ tsp salt
- 4 flatbread (optional)
Steps
- Pan fry black pepper and sliced garlic in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
- Add olive oil to the skillet and infuse for 1 minute.
- Stir in chopped tomatoes and salt, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.
- Remove lid, mash the tomatoes to your desired consistency, and continue to reduce the sauce.
- Make four craters in the sauce, lower the heat, and carefully crack an egg into each crater, ensuring it touches the pan.
- Cover the skillet and cook for 5 minutes without lifting the lid.
- Remove from heat and let the residual heat steam the eggs for 1-2 minutes.
- Serve immediately, optionally with flatbread.
