Saudi Arabian Shakshouka

Ingredients

  • ½ lb tomato
  • 3 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 4 egg
  • 4 clove garlic
  • ½ tsp black pepper (optional)
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 flatbread (optional)

Steps

  1. Pan fry black pepper and sliced garlic in a dry skillet over medium heat until fragrant.
  2. Add olive oil to the skillet and infuse for 1 minute.
  3. Stir in chopped tomatoes and salt, cover, and simmer for 5 minutes.
  4. Remove lid, mash the tomatoes to your desired consistency, and continue to reduce the sauce.
  5. Make four craters in the sauce, lower the heat, and carefully crack an egg into each crater, ensuring it touches the pan.
  6. Cover the skillet and cook for 5 minutes without lifting the lid.
  7. Remove from heat and let the residual heat steam the eggs for 1-2 minutes.
  8. Serve immediately, optionally with flatbread.
