Shawarma Bread

Ingredients

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • ¾ cup water

Steps

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
  2. Add oil and gradually add water, kneading the dough for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  3. Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for at least 30 minutes, or until it has risen slightly.
  4. Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into a thin, round flatbread.
  5. Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  6. Cook each flatbread for 1-2 minutes per side, until it puffs up and develops golden spots.
  7. Transfer the cooked bread to a warm place and cover with a clean towel to keep it soft and create pockets.
