Shawarma Bread
Soft, puffy, and perfect for stuffing, this homemade Saudi Arabian flatbread is an ideal accompaniment to any shawarma.
Ingredients
- 2 cup all-purpose flour
- 2 tsp salt
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- ¾ cup water
Steps
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar.
- Add oil and gradually add water, kneading the dough for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Cover the dough and let it rest in a warm place for at least 30 minutes, or until it has risen slightly.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions and roll each into a thin, round flatbread.
- Heat a dry skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
- Cook each flatbread for 1-2 minutes per side, until it puffs up and develops golden spots.
- Transfer the cooked bread to a warm place and cover with a clean towel to keep it soft and create pockets.
